Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney has said that Playstation 5 technology is game-changing. It will apparently even bring about the end of loading screens, thanks to the revolutionary new storage system implemented in the system. This was demoed to us recently by the Unreal Engine 5 demo off of Playstation 5 hardware.
One thing we are likely to see over the next couple months, are the comparisons of hardware between the Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X. While we’ve seen the specifications of both, and the Series X seems better, many devs still swear by the Playstation 5, and in al honesty, specs on sheet are different than real life performance.
In an interview with Geoff Keighley, Sweeney even said that the Playstation 5’s hardware was better than a PC’s. Stating that the gap between PC gaming, being the best performance you can get, and console gaming, is closing very quickly. This means that we are likely to see mid-high range performance out of consoles, which is an amazing advancement to be sure.
The Playstation 5 technology that Sweeney is talking about is apparently built around making use of its internal solid state drive and even relying on it. This makes it more reliable than PC architecture, which doesn’t rely on its own SSD. We haven’t actually seen any real gameplay on the PS5, so besides Sweeney's word, there's no proof to it yet. We haven’t even seen any of the games that would be coming out for it, even though one was rumored to be getting announced today. Either way, with Unreal Engine 5 and how amazing the graphics already look, any game on the console made with that engine will look amazing.
