Risk of Rain 2 developers recently released a new roadmap for the game, and the game is planning on leaving Early Access on consoles and PC by fall 2020. The long awaited follow-up to the original, Risk of Rain 2 took a different path, primarily the change from 2D to 3D. Developer Hopoo Games has been adding new features and building out the game more and more with each update. They have now released a new roadmap for what to expect in the upcoming releases.
The roadmap that was released for Risk of Rain 2 includes some new features, but more importantly, its exit from early access and launch to 1.0. According to the studio, the game is currently expected to exit its Early Access in August 2020 for PC players, with PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch in the fall. The studio wanted to make sure that Risk of Rain 2‘s launch was “truly a complete game experience” not just in content, but “improving and iterating on old features and content that’s been left behind.”
While the game’s launch was planned for earlier this year, the studio confirmed they will be spending more time on the 1.0 release of Risk of Rain 2, for additional development polish. However, developers quickly clarified that the delay in exiting Early Access has “not been altered because of COVID-19,” and that the studio’s operations are “mostly unaffected” by the ongoing pandemic.
Hopoo Games also detailed some of the additional features that the studio has planned for the 1.0 release of Risk of Rain 2. One of the biggest new features is the addition of a new server browser. This would allow players to join matches with other players of their own preference, along with support for dedicated servers for players to host either public or private matches. The 1.0 release also adds a new survivor, new final stage and boss, new items and equipment, and more.
The studio is still moving ahead as planned with a new update for the PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch versions of the game this June. According to the studio, the upcoming console update will offer some of the most recent new additions to the PC version of the game, including a new stage and boss, items/equipment, and the introduction of Artifacts 2.0.
